BB’s team, Keypav put up a valiant fight but went down against a very strong Corsairs side.

On a cold misty morning at Mellish our boys teamed up with spirited Paviors players with Nottingham Corsairs our first opponents of the day currently top of the league. In this game, there were some great passages of play from both sides. BB’s rucked really well when they got the chance we kept up well with the Corsica side and was as skilled in the arts of both mauling and creating the maul as them. On the back of this they had a couple of quick footed runners whom BB’s found hard to bring down. It was a game played in Great Spirit and BB’s showed that recent training in game play is actually sinking in.

Game of the day BB’s v Modern

Well! What a game it was! Modern' tried hard, advantage to BB and all (tosses!) but still Moderns was not letting go that easy! A fantastic game! Great first half with strong defence from our lads and some fast ball and some great tackling 2 tries scored by Oscar.

Second half carried on from the first half very strong from the BB team. Adam scored within the opening seconds following lightning play by Michael and Harry Brooks. Oscar then scored our second try for a big run down the pitch to score. Excellent running break from Harry Brooks Michael and Adam all BB’s team had some nifty moves they had a strong attack with a particularly effective scoring which led us to maintain the lead.

When the final whistle went, I think that all of the spectators felt that they had watched a very good game of rugby.

Third match of the day Keypav v Newark:

First half started well our first chance came after a useful break and pass from Oscar gave Harry Brooks the chance to get our backs moving. The resulting break down gave our forwards a chance to drive for the line. It looked like a big effort, fromWilliam, Adam, Matt WOscar in particular, was going to carry us over the line but Newark defence managed to kill the chance. Newark once again applied pressure and in the next five minutes took advantage of a couple of BB errors and were able to score twice! First half over and we were trailing 3-0

Second half started well it is a sign of good character that none of BB’s team gave up. Neal had the chance to remind our team that they just needed to relax and play the way they know how to. The improvement soon brought us a chance! This produced great ball from a ruck just inside the BB’s half. Quick passes from Harry Brooks and William. Our BB’s team started to get to grips and work together in the scrum. This half their was some excellent decision making and calls from the team working together which meant that our big runners were starting to get the ball in space and in the BB’s half. We showed some good play but Newark still scored two tries this half.

Newark 5 BB’s 0

Fourth match Southwell  v BB’s

The game kicked off both teams competed hard for possession but BB struggled to establish continuity or rhythm. From the back of a scrum, about half way, Southwell launched an impressive back line attack. Matt W and Michael managed to get a two man tackle in, near the corner which stopped Southwell and the rest of our defence stood firm against 5 or 6 determined attacking phases from Southwell forwards and backs. However, Southwell showed what a good opponents’ they were and managed in the end score 3 tries. BB perhaps a little disappointed this half our players found it difficult to cope with some determined and very large Southwell attacks but on saying that BB made some great tackling and showed skill and determination throughout.

From kick off in the second half, it came clear that the Southwell forwards were beginning to dominate the BB team in open play and set pieces. Despite the wide pitch, BB was finding it difficult to create the open spaces they like to play in. However, on saying that superb contesting of the ball in contact from BB team, produced turnovers, and attacking opportunities for our team. BB team forwards set a good driving maul and some excellent rucks but once again Southwell managed to get 2 more tries of the match but BB’s should be really proud of themselves well done.

Southwell definitely have some big U12’s must be the fresh air out there or genetic soya!

Southwell 5 Keypav 0

Last match of the day Ashfield v Keypav

By the time we were ready to play this match our BB’s team were tired and ready to go home but being true sportsman they found the energy to get up on there weary legs and scored a try in this game. Our forwards took their counterparts Ashfield head -on from the start, a true gutsy performance, driving our rucks & mauls forward no-end. All knew the job at hand, top stuff! Our forwards momentum then allowed our backline to shine. Our halves provided the connection from the engine room to the fast flying centres and wingers. Finally, our defence, well the score speaks for itself.

Ashfield 4 BB’s 1

Well done BB’s you all played a excellent game well done to you all.

Huge thanks goes to Paviors Coach Neil who was fantastic to the players throughout and the boys and Abbie who gave everything and more!
