Moderns v Keyworth

Final Score: 5-2

The first match of the season for the Under 9's started on one of hottest days in October on record as temperatures reached some 26C.Keyworth and Moderns had one team each, with a few subs to help out. Kick off started at 11.00 with a try to Moderns within the first 5 minutes, however Keyworth kept up the pace with some excellent low tackles from Joel and Taegan, preventing the opposition scoring more tries.

The first "contact" match for the Under 9's and there were a few boys and girls tackled to the ground, Sophie and Charlie to name a few, however they were soon back up and giving as good back. George was full of energy and did some superb running with the ball only to be tackled just before the try line, losing the ball to Moderns. Another series of excellent runs was Sebastian who out ran the opposition darting and swerving as he made for the try line, again Moderns seemed less fearful of tackling and sadly for Keyworth managed to prevent any tries being scored.

Another try to Moderns but Keyworth kept their chin up and saw some good passes from Ollie and Matthew, to be finally rewarded with a super try to Keyworth from Joel. The second half saw much of the same with Billy and Aaron having some good touches and runs with the ball but not enough to score a try. The game belonged to Moderns as they continued to score more tries, however we never stopped our efforts and William had several excellent runs but sadly Moderns managed to tackle again and again and take the ball.

Without doubt Keyworth had a great first match and the previous weeks training was easy to see, with energy and enthusiasm flowing the team worked well together and finally saw another try to Keyworth from Joel, the end of the match saw an overall score of 5 2 to Moderns.
